On Christmas, I visited attractive places around Tokyo. For example, Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower and Midtown at Ropponggi. It was so much fun in Tokyo, although it was so crowded.
However, I really like it. I went to count down at some shrine in Tokyo. There were a lot of people there waitng for getting into the shrine. I had to wait more than 30 minutes to enter there. I felt so sick, because it was so cold. But I had no choice just waiting. Unfortunately,it was not worth waitng for, it is a simple shrine.
After I spent 6 days on travelling in Tokyo, I came down to Yokohama. I went to Kamakura. I experienced with the same thing in Tokyo. I had to wait for 45 minutes. I stood among a great number of Japanese people who would like to bless for celebrating New Year. Despite it was almost 5 o'clock in the afternoon, a lot of Japanese still came here. When I walked around Kamakura area, I went to pray for respect at Daibutsu and Hasedara. I am so impressed.
It was so amazing. Anyhow, it is a buddhist temple and not as crowded as the shinto shrine where I went recently.
Tokyo and Yokohama sightseeing, I have not only good memory but also Japanese behavior observation. The one thing and the most important thing I learned is Japanese people's attitude toward religious. In summary, almost of Japanese emphasize on participating in Shinto culture like blessing at the shrine either on New Year or the day after. They have to wait for 1 hour or more than that though. I don't know is it a good thing to do or not. However, it is still mainstream trend in Japanese society.
Thanks! Religion is an interesting topic we have not touched upon yet.
